ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. The annual championship meeting of the New Zealand Gun Clubs, recently conducted by the Auckland Gun Club, resulted ns follows: £SO Open Sparrow Handicap Match.— W. C. Whitney (Auckland), 18 yards, with the possible, 1 i birds, won first prize money. C. Seddon (Hamilton) 21 yards, D. Campbell (Hastings) 21 yards, W. Woolven (Hamilton) 20 yards, T. Parker (Napier) 19 yards, J. Donnelly (Auckland) 19 yards, R. E. Farrow (Waitoa) 18 yards, and C. H. Drysdale (Auckland) 16 yards, divided second and third money with 13 birds each. New Zealand Sparrow Championship, oS 21 yards.—M. Pratt (Otorohanga), C. Rae (Auckland), D. Ewing (Auckland) each shot the possible of 21 birds. In the shoot-olf M. Pratt won the 1933 Championship, on the eighth bird. Weather conditions were rough, with a gale and heavy rain squalls at intervals. £SO Open Live Pigeon Handicap Match. —S. G. Glennie (Gisborne) 26 yards and H. Clinch (National Park) 27 yards, secured the possible 15 birds each, with J. Donnelly (Auckland) 23 yards, C. H. Drysdale (Auckland) 21 yards, D. Ewing (Auckland) 22 yards, and W. Woolven (Hamilton) 26 yards, each with 14 birds. In this match a keen competitor, who was making a re-appearancee after an absence of many years, was Mr J. Allen, of Taumarunui, aged 83. New Zealand Live Pigeon Championship, off 28 yards.—Herbert Clinch, of National Park, shot 20 out of 21, and won the 1933 Championship. P. Seecombe (Auckland) 19 birds, J. Donnelly (Auckland) 18, L. Ramsey (Auckland) 18, E. Groome (Otane) 18, H. Hooper (Hastings) 17, S. G. 'Glennie (Gisborne) 17. D. Ewing (Auckland) 17, N. Bossad (Huntly) and A. N. Turner < (Christchurch) 17. A keen quarterly wind made the targets particularly difficult, and as early as the eighth round, no shooter was all on. £SO Open Clay Bird Handicap Match, 21 Birds. —T. S. Harrison (Methvcn) 15 yards, 21 birds; I. G. Watkins (Rangiora) 18 yards, 21; T. Parker (Napier) 16 yards, 21; A. N. Turner (Christchurch) 15 yards, 21; R. H. Bartley (Auckland) 12 yards, 21; C. E. Hodge (Auckland) 16 yards, 21; J. Ozanne (Taumarunui) 16 yards, 21; and six other shooters were one bird down each. Although there was a storm during the morning, the shooting was of a high class. Some excellent shooting was witnessed on the day. R. H. Bartley (Auckland) got 46 birds out of 46, C. E. Hodge (Auckland), 45 —46; A. N, Turner (Christchurch), 45 —46; H. Quarterman (Wanganui), 43 — 46; I. G. Watkins (Rangiora), 37—39: T. Parker (Napier), 30 —31; J. M'Mullnn (Kaihoke), 30—31; and A. Aitken (Mornnsvillo). 30—31. Tiie New Zealand Clay Bird 1933 Championship, 21 Birds, off 18 yards, was won by I. G. Watkins (Rangiora), after a sboot-01l with G. Bretherton (Raetihi). The new class and points system of dividing prize money was introduced for the first time at a New Zealand championship meeting.
