EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS
MR EDGAR'S WORK The diversity, grandeur, and rnggedness of Otngo mountain scenery forms the main subject of the paintings, oils and watercolours, and etchings which comprise Mr J. D. Charlton Edgars exhibition in the Bristol Concert Chamber. Tlie exhibition, which will remain open until Wednesday week, should be full of interest for artists and lovers of Otago scenery alike. Mr Edgar has captured the special appeal of Central and Western Ota'jo scenery, and presents a wide and engaging variety of work. In both oils and water-colours he acquits himself with genuine distinction, and contrives very successfully also to catch the atmosphere and detail of the .scenery in black and white. " Prom Above Matukituki Gorge," " Bronze Bluffs," " Snow Water,'' "The Wilkin Valley," and "Golden Valley and Native Bush " are among the outstanding features of the exhibition, although a strikingly different note ( is struck in a portrait study entitled '"The White Turban," and such works as Old Houses, Bruges." Mr Edgar proves, himself an artist of merit by this exhibition, and no one interested should fail to pay it a visit.
