THE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
Waikouaiti held its monthly meeting on Wednesday. Despite the inclemency of the weather there was a fair attendance, presided over by Mrs Jenkins. This month’s motto is, “Forgive others many things, yourself nothing.” The was answered by each member giving “a gardening hint.” A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs Holland in her recent sad bereavement. Mrs Lang was appointed delegate to the forthcoming conference of the Otago Federation of the Women’s Institute. The competition for the month was, “ Three plain biscuits,” the first prize being awarded to Mrs Kerr and second to Mrs Graham. All present took part in “sing, say, play, or a penny pay,” after which community singing was led by Miss Summers. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdamea Lang, Potts, and Kerr.
The monthly meeting of the Stirling Women's Institute was held in the Athenaeum Hall on Wednesday, May 3. There was a good attendance of ladies present, Mrs Ericson (president) being in the chair. A discussion on federation business occupied some time. The roll call was answered with thg question, " What do you most dislike doing in your home?" Arid the answers given were varied and amusing. The market table proved attractive to numerous buyers, Mrs A. J. Bell and Mrs Jensen being in charge of this. Mrs Morgan and Mrs Cochrane, two visitors from Upper Hillend, then gave a demonstration on " Pine Needle Basket - making and Raffia Baskets," some good specimens of papier mache ones being included in the collection. Mrs P. A. Low, in a few kindly words, thanked the ladies for coming .to Stirling.
