WAIKOUAITI NOTES

WAIKOUAITI, May 6.
The annual meeting of the Waikouaiti Branch of the Plunket Society was held on 'Thursday afternoon, ■ Mrs Orbell presiding. Mrs Orbell was re-elected president, and Miss Graham, vice-president, but to the great regret of the committee Mrs D. Malloch, who has been a very efficient secretary for a number of years, definitely declined to accept the position for a further term. As Waikouaiti has now become a sub-branch of Dunedin, the headquarters of the nurse will be in the city. The committee has decided to hold a card party and dance in June for the purpose of augmenting the : funds of the branch. FARMERS' UNION.
. The monthly meeting of the Waikouaiti Branch, of the Farmers' Union was held last night, Mr W. Lee presiding. Messrs W. Lee, J. Hallum (secretary),'and A. Woods were appointed to represent the branch at the annual conference to be held, in Dunedin. Mr Alan Orbell expressed the thanks of the newly-formed Waikouaiti tropp -of Mounted' Rifles, to those members who. had ; lent horses for the use of the troops at the recent training camp.. Interesting discussions took place on the manufacturing costs of woollen goods and the various methods of rabbit destruction. It was decided to join with the A. and P. Society in holding a winter social.
