DIXMUDE DISASTER

THE INQUEST ON VOSS

OPEN VERDICT RETURNED.

LONDON, April 27. An open verdict that Voss died from injuries, without conclusive evidence why or how he left the machine, was returned. An aifi expert (Major Mayo) gave evidence that the fire unquestionably began in the rear of the plane, where it was first seen. There was nothing to indicate engine failure or other defects in the plane. Voss’s clothing was scarcely burned, indicating that he left the plane at the commencement of the fire, but had no parachute. Dr Ghosh declared' that Voss was neither poisoned nor shot. It was impossible to say whether he was blown out or jumped. ' The coroner instructed the jury that, though Voss’s reputation was unenviable, there was no possible evidence that he was responsible for the fire.

A message received on April 4 stated: The Daily Mail says that Scotland Yard, is investigating sensational theories in regard to the Dixmudc air disaster. The funeral of one of the victims, Albert Voss, of Manchester, who jumped from the aeroplane, has been postponed, and the police removed the body to the mortuary for a post mortem on Tuesday. Voss’s son Alfred alleged that his father and Dearden, another victim, who was Voss’s agent, collapsed from an overdose of a drug in October. The police asked Alfred in December to make a statement of Voss’s business affairs.
