The appeals by Wenzl Scholium, racehorse owner, W. Goscomb, trainer, and G. Grice, apprentice jockey, against their disqualification for six months by the Judicial Committee of the Whangarei Racing Club were upheld by the Auckland District Racing Committee. The case concerned the running of Princess Star in the Portland Hack Handicap at Whangarei on April 6, and the disqualifications were imposed on the ground that there had been a contravention of the rule relating to a horse being run on its merits. The District Committee in allowing the appeals ordered the deposits of £5 each to be returned to the appellants. NEW SIRE FOR STONYHURST (Special to Daily Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 18. Another well-bred English sire will be available to Canterbury owners next breeding season. This is the 12-year-old Magnus, who has been secured for Stonyhurst by Sir Charles Clifford from his cousin, Captain Charles Moore, of Mooresfort Stud, a well-known Irish stud in Tipperary. Magnus is by the unbeaten grey horse The Tetrarch, sire of Chief Ruler and Tea Tray, from Princess Dorrie, by Your Majesty from Doris. He was bred by Mr J. B. Joel, and represents some of the most successful blood. His dam, Princess Dorrie, ivinner of the One Thousand Guineas and Oaks, is a halfsister to Sunstar, winner of the Two Thousand Guineas and the Derby, while the Persimmon horse Your Majesty, the sire of Princess Dorrie, is a St. Leger winner. Magnus, who did little racing, won a mile race at Newmarket as a fhree-year-old. He has had several seasons at Captain Moore’s stud, where he has left some promising stock. He is expected to arrive here about September, and should be a valuable addition to the breeding stock of the Dominion.
