HAMMOND’S RECORD
TO TUB EDITOR. Sir, —Hammond has succeeded in topping Bradman’s score for test cricket; and, unfortunately, this will go down m cricket history as against a New Zealand team. New Zealand will not always be at the bottom of the ladder in cricket, and Hammond, by shifting the baby on to us, has done something for England which Mr Jardine and English cricket lovers generally will welcome. Hus baby we will unfortunately have to carry until it is shifted by either ourselves or another Bradman. It is useless to declaim that we are only young at the game. We entered as a test team, and as a test record it must stand. Good luck to Hammond! We in New Zealand know whom to blame for this big unwanted, and without entering into the merits or demerits of any respective members of the New Zealand team, I would like to make the suggestion that until we place a team in the Held capable ot upholding our name, matches against overseas teams should be confined to provincial fixtures, which would be of more benefit both to New Zealand cricket and to the New Zealand Cricket Association.—l am, etc., Gully.
