FORESTERS

The quarterly summoned meeting of Court Woodlands Pride was held on March 27, the chief ranger, Sister Marks, presiding. The court presented a somewhat animated scene on account of the large number of members who attended to make their arrangements in connection with their medical lists and also for the purpose of assisting in the election of their officers for the ensuing term. The report of the woodwards indicated that a number of sisters who had been ill were back to their usual occupations. The secretary reported that the sick pay claims for the fortnight were smaller than for some time past. A resignation was accepted from a sister who had recently been married and a transfer was granted to one who had moved to a distant part of the district. The United Friendly Societies Council wrote asking the court to discuss the British Medical Association’s panel scheme and forward a reply to the council. The secretary was instructed to convey to the council the court’s decision to support the panel scheme. A letter was received from the Dunedin United Friendly Societies Dispensary giving a list of the attendances at the committee meetings during 19321933, and requesting the court to elect a delegate for the year 1934. The secretary was elected and also instructed to convey the result of the election to the secretary of the Dispensary Board. An invitation from Court Pride of Dunedin to a social and dance in the Old Commercial Travellers’ Building was accepted, a large number of sisters signifying their intention of attending. A list, of the quarterly accounts was submitted to the court and passed for payment. Two candidates were initiated into the Order, the ceremony being carried out in the usual impressive manner. The immediate past district chief ranger (Bro. J. Reynolds), accompanied by the district sub-chief ranger (Bro. T. Pitts), attended the court and installed the newly-elected officers into their respective chairs. All officers returned thanks for their election and intimated their willingness to do all they possibly could for the welfare of the court and Order. The district officers addressed the court, and congratulated the members on their choice of officers and on the work of the court generally. The secretary read the propositions of two candidates for the next meeting. The meeting was terminated by a very pleasing function, when the immediate past district chief ranger presented Past Chief Ranger Sister E. Alcorn with her sash and certificate and congratulated her on passing through all the chairs of the court. Sister Alcorn in returning thanks for her sash and certificate expressed her appreciation to all members who had so loyally supported her during her term of office.
