OTAGO GOLF CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the members of the Otago Golf Club was held on Thursday evening last. In the unavoidable absence of the president (Mr E. J. Hocking), Mr J. G. Dick presided over an attendance of over 40 members. The chairman reviewed the work done on the greens during the past year. The principal features of the work, he said, had been the steps taken to drain the greens and also various treatments which had been applied to eradicate the daisy pest. Much valuable work had been done during the past year, but the benefits had been nullified by the extremely dry season experienced. The statement of income and expenditure showed a surplus for the year of £144 8s 7d, which was extremely satisfactory in view of the present economic conditions. The reserve, which had been started seven years ago, now stood at £1193 3s lid, and it was proposed to repay £I2OO off the mortgage. In view of the saving of interest and other adjustments, the committee found it possible to submit a resolution to reduce the playing members' subscriptions to £6 6s. The resolution was submitted to the members, and carried unanimously. The election of office-bearers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —President, Professor T. D. Adams; captain, Mr J. W. Smeaton; committee—Messrs J G Dick, A. Holland, J. H. M'Dougall, S. K. Sleigh, W. G. Wight. Mr W. T. Monkman was reappointed auditor. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the three retiring members of the committee (Messrs D. H. Butcher, H. A. Salmon, and B. V. Wright) for their services.
The cups for the various competitions were presented. The prize-winners for the year were as follows:—Club championship winner, J. A. Scoular; runner-up, J. Spence; president's trophy, H. W. Bundle; medal handicaps, D. Haggitt and D. M. Irvine; Bruntsfield medal, T. B. Ferguson; Bruntsfield handicaps, C. W. Glover and T. I. Lascelles; Knock-out Competition—winner, (Haggitt Cup), H. J.
