OTAGO v. AUCKLAND DICKINSON OMITTED FROM HOME TEAM. The following team has been chosen to represent Otago against Auckland in the Plunket Shield match, which will be commenced at Carisbrook to-morrow: — F. T. Bndcock (captain), A. Knight, D Smith, D. A. R, Moloney, V. G. Cavanagh, C. Elmos, J. A. Dunning, T. Chettleburgh, It. W. Coupland, W. Hawkesworth, V. Leader, and A. Priest (twelfth man). Dickinson was available, but the selectors decided not to include him in the teaim It is understood that his omission is due to his decision not to travel to Wellington with the side. The team which will meet Auckland is the same as that which defeated Wellington, with the exception that Leader, who was twelfth man, replaces Priest. The Otago team returned to Dunedin yesterday afternoon. Priest was suffering from an injury above the eye caused by a collision with Knight while fielding. The team to represent Auckland has not yet been chosen. The umpires will be Messrs R. Torrance and W. W. Mackersy, and Mr W. Rowland will be the official scorer.
The match, for which four days are allowed, is attracting considerable interest. The Auckland touring side, which arrived yesterday afternoon, and which includes _ several New Zealand representatives, is as follows:—G. L. Weir (captain). J. E. Mills, A. J. Postles, J. Cowie, G. S. Hampton, H. G. Vivian, P. E. Whitelaw, H, P. Pearson, C. C. Dacre, W. R. Garrard, A. M. Matheson, and R. G. Bush.
Most of the members of the team have been seen in action in Dunedin, where Matheson and Bush have both resided for a period and played in club matches. Followers of the game will be anxious to see Vivian in action, in view of his fine performances for New Zealand and against Canterbury in the match just concluded. Otago’s victory against Wellington has greatly increased local interest in the shield contest, and it is probable that the attendances will be larger than usual.
