In 1730 a fanner at Croydon, England, boasted of bis prowess in throwing the skittle ball. For a wager of £SO he undertook to bowl his favourite skittle ball between his home and London bridge, a distance of 11 miles, without throwing it more than 500 times. He won the -wager with a snappy 445.
