CASTLE WALL FALLS
MISSION HAIL DEMOLISHED. A great landslide took place near Inverness Castle early on the morning of October 8, and several houses were damaged. A retaining wall gave way and a newly-erected mission hall was demolished. Many residents of neighbouring houses had narrow escapes as the falling masonry crashed the roofs of buildings. They were asleep when the crash occurred, and they rushed from their homes in night attire. One little girl slept soundly, although the bedroom was damaged by debris and masonry.. The landslide caused great alarm in Inverness and crowds visited the scene during the day. No danger was feared for the castle building, which house the police office and Sheriff Court.
