The motor vessel Port Whargarel, which arrived hero yesterday from northern ports. Is timed to sail this evening for Tlmaru, Lyttelton and Wellington to complete loading for Tauranga, Auckland, and Whangarel. The Wlngatul arrived on Saturday morning from Auckland, via ports, and was berthed at the Birch street wharf to discharge and load general cargo. She is timed to sail this evening for Tlmaru, Lyttelton, Wellington and Auckland. The Holmdale Is duo at Dunedin this morning from Wellington to discharge and load general cargo. She Is timed to sail this evening for Wellington, Plcton and Wanganui, via ports. The Poolta, which Is due at Dunedin this morning from Wellington, is timed to sail at 11 a.m. to-morrow for Oaraaru, Tlmaru, and Lyttelton to complete loading for Wellington, Napier and Gisborne. The Kalranga left Sydney last Thursday for Auckland with a cargo of wheat. The vessel is due at the northern port to-morrow, and after discharge she will proceed to Geelong to load again for Auckland. The Union Company’s Walpahl, from Apia and Suva, reached Auckland last Wednesday. She will leave Auckland again on December 24 for Fiji and Samoa. With a full cargo of raw sugar the steamer Dalcross reached Auckland last Wednesday morning from Java. The Westland Shipping Company, owners of the Chatham Islands steamer Tees, announces that, as a result of a conference between the company and the Islanders, they have made a reduction of approximately 10 per cent. In both outward and Inward freights on all classes of cargo. The C. and D. Line steamer Port Hunter reached New Plymouth last Wednesday morning from Wellington to complete discharge of her cargo from New York and Corpus Chrlstl, and to commence Homeward loading. She is to leave on December 21 for Wanganui, Napier, Auckland, Gisborne and Wellington to complete. WAIRUNA LEAVES LOS ANGELES. Advice received by the Union Company states that the Walruna, which loaded at Pacific coast ports, left Los Angeles on December 12 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin. Bluff, Melbourne, and Sydney. The vessel is due at Auckland about January 5, and at Dunedin about January 13. NIAGARA LEAVES HONOLULU. The Unton Company’s liner Niagara, cn route from Vancouver, left Honolulu on December 14 for Suva. Auckland and Sydney. She Is due at Auckland on December 26. DISCHARGING SHIPS AT LONDON. A striking example of the quick method adopted in discharging ships at London is supplied In the case of the motor vessel Opawa. Advice received by the New Zealand Shipping Company states that the Opawa, which left Auckland at 2.20 p.m. on November 10, arrived at London at 1.45 p.m. on December 14, and commenced discharge exactly one hour after arrival.

PERSONAL ITEMS. Captain R. M. Kane, of the Union Company’s service, is at present on holiday leave in Dunedin. • Captain J. Rankine Is in command of the Waihemo, which Is due at Dunedin to-morrow from San Francisco and Los Angeles, via northern ports. PASSENGERS BY THE MATAROA. The Shaw, Savlll and Albion liner Mataroa left Auckland on December 14 for London, via Southampton and Panama. In addition to cargo and mall the vessel has on board the following cabin class passengers:—Miss N. L. Crump, Miss C. I. Drummond, Mr G. A. Farelly, Mrs C. T. Lovering, Mr H. A cruise to Noumea for tourist-class passengers, by the liner Moldavia, Is announced by the P. and O. Company. It will occupy 11 days, commencing from Sydney on January 14 and Brisbane on January 18, and concluding at Sydney on January 25. Tourists will be landed at Noumea for a day’s excursion on Saturday, January 21. TRAINING SHIP ARETHUSA. The Peking, steel four-masted barque, 3191 tons gross, 2851 tons net, built by Blohm and Voss, Hamburg, 1911, S.S. No. 2, 1931, and owned by the Reederei F. Laiesz, Hamburg, has been sold to the Shaftesbury Homes and Arethusa training ship. The Peking will replace the Arethusa, which is in an advanced state of decay.
