NORTH-EAST HARBOUR NOTES

CHRISTMAS SERVICES. Special Christmas services will he held at the Macandrew' Bay Presbyterian Church to-morrow'. The church choir will render a selection of Christmas anthems, and the Rev. W. W. MacArthur will occupy the pulpit. CHRISTMAS CHEER. Several functions have been held during the past week to assist in the fund to provide a Christmas hamper for the unemployed and have been well supported. A donation of £1 Is was received from the Old Time Dance Committee, and Mr G. F, Bewley (president of the North-East Harbour Ratepayers’ Association) will receive any gifts towards this end. CLEAN-UP DAY. The secretary of the North-East Harbour Ratepayers’ Association has received advice from the Peninsula County Council that a clean-up day has been arranged for Thursday of next week. Residents are requested to have tlieir receptacles placed in a prominent position for removal. RECREATION GROUND. The unemployed have practically completed the work of improving the recreation ground at the rear of the Macandrew Bay Public Hall. A start has now been made on the formation of a footpath along the Beach road, which will be a decided improvement for pedestrians. NORTH-EAST HARBOUR SCHOOL. The annual breaking-up ceremonies in connection with the North-East Harbour School were held on Thursday. In the afternoon the infant classes assembled at the school and received their prizes. The main ceremony was held in the evening in the Macandrew Bay Public Hall, the function being presided over by Mr T. W. Milward (chairman of the school committee). A varied programme was given by the children, the large audience showing its satisfaction by applauding each item. At the close of the concert the prizes were presented, and Mr Milward, on behalf of the committee and parents, thanked the staff of the school for the way in which the children had been trained for the evening's entertainment, and for the efficient way in which the scholars had been educated during the past year, ns evidenced by the results of the examinations.
