Several of the horses engaged at the Banks Peninsula meeting to-day were among those worked at lliccartou on Thursday morning. . Metal Bird beat Wise Choice over five furlongs in 1.2 3-5, the first two furlongs taking 24 1-5 and the final three 37 4-5. There was not much between Golden Dart and Delice at the end of half a mile in 50 4-5. They will be rivals in the maiden race on Saturday. Royal Sceptre and Niggerhead, with good weights up, cut out five furlongs in 1.3 3-5 —a sterling effort, in which the former had the honours. Sharp Thorn and Robin Hood finished head to tail after half a mile in 51 2-5. Silent Flight and Zeebrugge, starting well behind the mark, took the three furlongs flying in 37. Rottlen and Hurlingham put up a similar effort. These four were very brilliant. Importance ran five furlongs easily in 1.8. On the No. 6 grass Grecian Prince cut out six furlongs in 1.10, reaching the halfway mark in 37. He was the only worker on this track. , , _. On the trial grass track. Scarlet Pimpernel was of no use to Verden, who took 1.3. Grampian ran half a mile in 52. Idolise and Grouse, separately, ran halt a mile up the back in 48. Helen Gold; who ran down the straight, was nearly as fast, but after cooling out, she was very * Po'lydora showed exceptional speed in running six furlongs in 1.14 3-5, the last half-mile in 49 4-5. Riri was her running mate, but he was quickly put out of court. Eclair and Sir Drake divided the honours of a half-mile in 50. Pixie Gold unexpectedly accounted for Monastic over seven furlongs in 1.30, the last six taking 1.16 4-0 Accompanied home by Natural, Red Heckle strode over seven furlongs easily. He was not asked for his longest stride. He is at present as fit as possible. On the plough, Silver Ring went a .rule the reverse way in 1.50, running the last five furlongs in 1.9 2-5. There was nothing appealing about the effort. Jhe gelding is not nearly at his best yet. Kakara ran 1.18, with 39 each way. Drumfire made the same aggregate time m 38 and 40 respectively. Tea Garden and Reserve Fund were to have gone half a mile together, but the former broke away and Reserve Fund started several lengths' behind him. to register 50 4-5. Tea Garden’s time was approximately the same. Gustavo was a neck ahead of Night Guard, with Water Polo a poor third, after a willing trial, in 1.4 3-5. Manefho went freely throughout to beat Tip Tree in 1.5. Starshootcr’s seven furlongs took 1 32 and 1.18 4-5 for the last six furlongs. Silver Light picked him up, and they ran the last half-mile together. Both these horses are improved.
