SALE OF HEALTH STAMPS
appeal by mayor The Mayor of Dunedin (Mr R. S. Black) has-received a telegram from the Minister of Health (Mr J. A. Young), in which the Minister states that he has been shown a progress report on thesales of Health stamps up to last Saturday. Dunedin was then in the fifth position, following Invercargill, in which town twice as many Stamps have been sold as in Dunedin. The Minister states: 1 think that if this position is disclosed to your citizens and the press they will take steps to resume their rightful place. Next week some one and a-quarter million pieces of mail matter will pour into your Chief Post Office, and, if you can get one stamp on only half of that, it will be a great achievement, adding considerably to the funds of your local organisation, which, I am informed, will hold a healtli camp for the children of indigent parents this summer—a movement that has my warmest commendation.” In view of this letter the Mayor appeals to the citizens of Dunedin to give their support to this scheme, which has for its object the welfare of the children. “ Thousands of children in New Zealand,” states the Mayor, “will benefit by your purchase of health stamps. The amount spent by each of us may not be very large, but if every person uses a health stamp for each letter and parcel posted then the result will be worthy of Dunedin’s groat name for giving help to every worthy cause. Christmas is near, and may I urge you one and all not to delay. By giving happiness to others you will increase your own happiness.”
