P 0 L 0 G I, In the issue of the Tomato and Stone Fruit Journal of the 15th of ■ October, 1932, there appeared certain paragraphs concerning the well-known business of A. B. Donald, Ltd., which is carried on. at Auckland, and has branches at many other places. . , These statements contained accusations against the business methods and principles of the Company, and also against Mr J.' B. Donald, one of the Directors of the Company. We stated, among other things, that this Company would have no scruples in sacrificing the grower and the public alike in its own interests; that the argument about benefiting certain natives of the Islands (with reference to tomatoes) was more than worn out, and that the powers that be did not realise that everything was being, sacrificed for the monetary interests of this firm. The Article also stated that the position was worse while Mr J. B. Donald held 'Ministerial status in this country. We are now satisfied that the statements and accusations referred to are wholly unfounded and unwarranted, and we hereby unreservedly withdraw them. We tender our sincere regret and apologies to Mr J. B. Donald and the firm of A. B. Donald, Ltd., for having published them. We have agreed to pay to their Solicitor all costs which have been incurred by the Company in this matter, and we trust that Mr J. B. Donald and the Company will accept such payment and this expression of regret and apology in the spirit in which it is offered, and as the best amends it is in our power to make.
