WOMEN’S DIVISION, FARMERS’ UNION ■A large gathering of members and friends gathered in the Hakataramea Hall for the final meeting of the year of the Upper Waitaki branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union. The president (Mrs Cleave) occupied the chair and extended a hearty welcome to Mr and Mrs Evans and Mrs Gillies. Mrs Evans gave a brief outline of the activities of the Timaru branch and also a demonstration on cheese making. A demonstration on the " Spinning Wheel” by Mr Evans proved a novelty, and was much appreciated. Mrs Gillies gave a short talk on housekeeping and a demonstration on dressmaking, A social hour followed, items being contributed by Mesdames Reid, Davidson, Miss Barclay and Mr MTiean. An enjoyable supper was provided by the ladies of the branch, and Mr Mac Lean thanked the demonstrators and all those who had assisted to make the function a success. LIFE-SAVING CERTIFICATES As the result of their work at lifesaving tuition during “ Learn to Swim" Week at Oamaru, Dorothy Hintz and Joan Guthrie, of the primary schools, have received certificates from the Life-saving Society., ~
