MILITARY CARNIVAL
The military carnival attracted another large gathering to the Central Battery, St. Hilda, last night. There are numerous attractions for the entertainment of patrons. These include roll-downs, bargain stalls, a wireless station from which messages can be sent by visitors to their friends, and a special shooting deyice. An excellent floor for dancing is provided at the cabaret, and this is proving very popular. The object for which the carnival has been organised is the raising of funds to provide, new social rooms and a kitchen in the battery training grounds. The battery non-commissioned officers, however, will not be the only ones who will benefit when sufficient money has been raised to carry out the improvements, as any unit training at the battery will be able to obtain a hot meal. The carnival- will bo continued every evening this week, and on Saturday afternoon. Last night’s attractions included a night attack, an air raid, and a Scottish invasion by members of the 14th Battery. The finals of the tug-of-war contest and the guard mounting competition will be held this evening.
