Canterbury, at Christchurch. ■ INTERCLUB CHAMPIONSHIP The interclub championship games on Saturday were played under trying weather conditionSi light showers failing and a heavy wind blowing: during the afternoon. The heavy rain of the previous night had rendered the greens heavy, and accurate drawing was a matter of great difficulty. The result of the day’s play leaves Kaikorai at the head of the list with..s2 points, Dunedin being in second position with 50 points, North-East Valley, Otago, and St. Kilda .following, with 48 points each. ■Three clubs —St. Kilda, Taieri, and Fairfield—secured the maximum points, 12. The following table gives the results of Saturday’s games, with the championship points scored to date by each club:— Pta.to

DOMINION TOURNAMENT "; V The entries for the Dominion tournament, though they show a slight falling off compared with last year,.must be considered very satisfactory when the prevailing depression is taken into consideration. Ninety-nine rinks have sent in entries, compared with 102 at Christchurch last January, hut it is quite-pro-bable that some late Gentries will be received.

Entries for the pairs total 156, compared with 174 last year, and for the singles 111, compared with 194. So far as I can, learn, only one .rink from Dunedin has entered—a Dunedin Club rink, comprising J. D. Best, J. C. Rigby, H. Gardiner, and J. Hutchison.

„; •, " .TAKE , MORE „ GREEN“ : , ’ Dear “Jack.’V-" Be bo!d but don’t bo bowled over.”—-0. Henry. It was a peculiar coincidence that while the tester was demonstrating to you, I was demonstrating to the tester! How could you have the" nerve? His lad set the chute at a.certain angle (or green) and my bowl finished dead on the peg-line on a 67ft. head. Now, according to you all :it requires is more push at the same, angle, and it will finish at the peg-line (where the kitty is) on a long head. Ithrew the bowl back to him, marking the place with my knife.: He then delivered the, bdwl from the top of the chute to give a long head, and it finished at 108 ft, 'but 20in narrow. I ha.ve two witnesses to prove this. I drew the tester’s attention to the position of the bowl and he .called “ You’re right.” He may or may not have meant right, but to you he has proved a bad counseller. I saw the late Willie M’Laren (one-time Australasian singles champion) win a wager on this same question more than 20 years ago, and I now challenge you to show me that you can put your bowl on the same peg-line at a long and short head without altering the. chute in any way, for that is your argument. If you alter the chute at the toe one inch, then, of course, you are increasing the width of your are which is necessary according to my argument, You used.the word "experience.” When you-have three love singles (rather uncommon) to your credit and have been in your winning club rink six times, once in each of the junior positions and three times as skip (not boasting, but facts) you will then spell experience with a capital E! —I am, etc., Sandy. .

I can only repeat that; it is an absolute fact that thie same green is required for a long head as for a short, one. “Sandy ” is possibly correct in saying that he witnessed a demonstration in which his bowl, when run off the chute on a long head, finished 20 inches narrow. This could be the result of various causes—a puff of wind, a fault in the green, and so on. I do not doubt “ Sandy's ” experience after reading hia formidable list of victories, but if my contention requires any support it has the full endorsement of the official bowls tester for the Dominion (Mr W. A. Scott), whose knowledge of the subject is second to none, I might further add that the peculiar coincidence referred to by “ Sandy" is really no coincidence at all, because “ Sandy ” was -not present at the green when the accuracy of rny statement was demonstrated to me by Mr Scott.
