WAITAKI DEFEATS SOUTHLAND HIGH SCHOOL. (Peii United Press' Association.) INVERCARGILL. December 14. The cricket match between the Waitaki and Southland Boys’ High Schools was concluded to-day. A high westerly wind made the conditions difficult. Waitaki, who made 318 in the first innings and 24 for no wickets in the second (R. D. Dick not out 17), won by 10 wickets. Southland in the first innings made IG2 (Uttley 42, Mackrell 30,'Stewart 25, Carswell 21). For Waitaki Smith took four for 54 and J. S. Dick four for 30. In the second innings Southland compiled 178 (Spence 83, Carswell 25, Campbell 25). Smith, five for G 7, and Kent, four for 23, shared the wickets. MATCH IN WELLINGTON TOWN V, COUNTRY. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 14. The annual Town v. Country match was commenced here to-day. Country batted first ami made the big total of 435 (Cameron 01, Massey GO, Morris 57, Hayward 82, Freeman not out 7G). Crook took three wickets for 07 and Griffiths three for 93. Town had scored 12 without loss at the drawing of stumps.
