DISMISSED BY FATHER

SON AND HIS POST UNEDIFYING QUARREL. An unedifying quarrel in the family of Herr Louis Adlon, the proprietor of a big Berlin hotel which bears his name, came before the Berlin Labour Court a few weeks ago. Herr Adlon, the plaintiff, asked for the eviction of his son Karl from the Continental Hotel, another of his properties. / c ' The son, who is 25, was recently dismissed from the management of the reception department of the Continental, in whi.ch his remuneration was 340 marks (£l7) a month, in addition to his board and lodging. He refused, however, to give up the bedroom occupied by himself and wife. The father stated that the disiiissal was merely an inevitable result of slackness of business and consequent reduction of staff. ,It was the custom of the trade that when dismissals were necessary for certain reasons the youngest members of the staff went first. Herr Karl Adlon, however, declared that Ibis dismissal was the result of dissensions which had arisen out of his marriage in June last with a daughter of the proprietor of the Mismarek Hotel in Chicago. At first, he said, his father entirely approved of the marriage. Later, under the influence of his stepmother, the present Frau Louis Adieu, his father changed completely. In the course of the hearing Herr Louis Adlon offered. provisionally to allow his son 250 marks (£l2 10s) a month if the room were vacated at once. After long negotiations this offer was accepted. The final settlement of the dispute was adjourned by the court.
