For the second year in succession, Maidstone lias held its Errand Boys’ Derby. Maidstone’s plan is to increase the speed and civility of her errand-boys, by holding an annual race, and this year there were 60 competitors, divided into two classes, foot and wheeled. They had to cover a course of three or four miles and deliver envelopes at certain points on the route. They got marks for neatness and politeness as well as speed. They ended up at the Town Hall, where the winner received 30s and every competitor had a free pass for the local kinemas. Last year’s winner got a rise from his employer.
