MOSGIEL VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE
One of the most enjoyable evenings in Qie annals of the Mosgiel Volunteer Fire Brigade was held recently when Junior Foreman Turnbull was presented with a 25-years’ gold star and a chair from the members, bearing a suitably inscribed silver plate, Mr Turnbull has to his credit 551 attendances out of (549 in that quarter of a century. For the past eight years he has b.een junior foreman. The presentation was made hy Captain J. White, in the unavoidable absence of the Mayor (Mr W. E. M'Lean). Mr Turnbull made suitable acknowledgment of the gifts. The following toast list was honoured ;—“ Local Societies,” by Mr Mitchell, and replied to bv representatives of lodges and bands present. “Ex-members,” by Mr Oliver, and replied to by ex-Captain Miller, and Messrs R. Turnbull, M'Cunn, T. Smeaton, A. P. Quelch, and J. Hicks; “The Borough Council,” by Mr Quelch, and responded to by Crs John Wright (deputy Mayor) and J. Garrett; “The Ladies,” by Mr Wisliart, and replied to by Mr R. Campbell; “The Local Brigade,” by Mr A. Cameron, and replied to by the chairman (Captain J. White), interspersed with “the toasts were musical, vocal, and elocutionary items hy Miss Blackie, Miss Mathesoji, and Mr W. Mitchell. ' .
