MILITARY CARNIVAL

The military carnival, organised by the Battery non-commissioned officers, again drew a large gathering to the Central Battery, St. Hilda, last night. The attractions which have been arranged for the entertainment of patrons are of a varied nature, and include roll-downs, bargain stalls, a wireless station from which messages can be sent by visitors to their friends, and a special shooting device, which has aroused a good deal of attention. In addition an excellent floor fur dancing is provided at the cabaret, which ‘is proving particularly popular with those who spend a few hours at the carnival. The object for which the carnival has been organised is the raising of funds to provide new social rooms, and a kitchen in the battery training grounds. It has been explained, however, that when sufficient money for this purpose has been raised the battery non-commis-sioned officers will not be the only ones who will benefit, as any unit training at the battery for a day will he able to receive a hot meal at the conclusion of operations. The carnival will be open every evening this week, and on Saturday afternoon. TUG-OF-WAB. Second Round.—l4th Battery beat 12th Battery I, H.Q. A Company O.R. beat 12th Battery IT. The (Inals of the tug-of-war and the guard mounting competition will be held to-morrow evening. A night attack, an air raid, and a Scottish invasion by members of the 14th Battery will be the principal attractions this evening.
