Judge Crawford at the County Court at Watford, Hertfordshire, lately, made an order for a man to pay at the rate of £1 a month the £354 costs of a divorce case in which he was the co-respondent. It will take the man nearly 30 years to pay the debt. Judge Crawford said: “ I suppose this is the perfection of human wisdom. Defendant is a comparatively poor man who I do not suppose has ever seen such a sum of money. 1 do not see why the County Court should not deal with all these matters. When the judge heard that the debtor had a motor which ho bought for £3, he remarked: “ The sooner it is off the road the better for everyone.” Judge Crawford has for some time urged that the work of the county courts should be extended to include the hearing of divorce cases, and so reduce the costs of such actions.
