Y.M.C.A. APPEAL FOR YOUTH
The chief danger of unemployment is physical, nervous, and moral deterioration. The primary need of unemployed youth, therefore, until work can be found is, first, a place other than the street in Avhicli to spend their time; and, second, and still more important, something to occupv their hands aud minds, and it nossible something to make them more capable of finding any position which may be offered them. The Young Men's Christian Association has a contribution to make in this matter. The Y.M.C.A. cannot stand idle ill face of the problem which directly affects so large a section of the nation's youth. It cannot and does not expect to solve a problem where so many others have failed, but at least it is doing its best "by experiment" and research, by inquiry and trial to add its quota to Urn effort* which are being made. The work that is being done is touching, of course, but a small section of a gigantic problem, but the Y.M.C.A. has shown in Dunedin, and other centres o New Zealand wherein it operates, that it is not afraid to grapple with that part of the problem which lies closest to its special experience, and that it only needs lite necessary resources to do far more. The Y.M.C.A. has met the new challenge mikl offers free of its best to the unemployed boy. It is over aiming iilso to educate and lead its own boys in membership towards real citizenship. Kuns? arc urgently needed to continue and extend this 'service. For the boys' sake an appeal is made for support ,for a 10.000 s drive to equip the boys department better and further advance the service for boys. , Friday, the 28th inst., will see launched a Red Triangle conipaign for funds. I'rincc George, speaking (it an exhibition on Muv 15. snul: "There cun be no question of'the value—at this lime especially—of the help the association is giving the rising generation. I ask you by vo-j' backing to strengthen its hands.
