PENSION FOR FORTY-THREE YEARS
Believed to be the oldest police pensioner of the London Metropolitan Form now living, Mr Jacob Wiseman, of Highgate, who retired in 1889, and who has been drawing his pension for 43 years, has just celebrated his ninety-first birthday. Mr Wiseman joined the force as a " Peeler," and his uniform consisted of a top-hat and swallow-tail coat. For many years he was stationed at the Houses of Parliament and the National Gallery. While living at Lambeth* one of his neighbours was the much-sought-after Charlie Peace, for whom all the police of England were searching. v tJnfortunately Mr Wiseman did not-realis-v his neighbour's identity.
