(From Odr Own Correspondent.) PEMBROKE, October 10. THE WEATHER. A welcome break in the dry spell took place on Friday last.- A fresh breeze from the north-west was followed by a One, warm rain, which continued throughout the night, the gauge registering 79 points of rain. A further light rain throughout Sunday night has done much to assure good crops and pastures. CRICKET. The Wanaka team played Cardrona on Saturday on the Pembroke Domain, Wanaka winning by 10 runs. GOLF. The Wanaka Golf Club’s season was closed on Saturday with a mixed Canadian foursome over 13 holes. The best cards were as follow:—Mrs M'Kegg and C. Ironside, 58 —20—38; Mrs Jackson and T. Anderson, 00—23—43; Miss Anderson and C. Templeton, 02—10—40; Miss F. Perrow and R. I, Nicholson, 09 —21—48; Mrs Faulks and J, Faulks, 70 —20—50; Mrs Studholme and F. Jackson, 08—17 —51; Mrs Collings and J. Perrow, 02—10—52; Mrs Poole and F. Collings, 00—13 —53; Mrs Thompson and M. Thompson, 78—25—53; Miss M. Perrow and A. M'Kegg, 81—25—50.

LAWN TENNIS. The lawn tennis season was opened by the Wanaka Club on Saturday in fine weather. Fifty players took part in at ranged sets during" the afternoon. Visitors were present from Cromwell, Low burn and Hawca, Afternoon tea was provided by the lady niembers. A dance was held in the Pembrok" Hall in the evening, when the music was supplied by Alesdames Thomson, Dickie, Scaife, Bovctt, Alisscs APFarlane and Bovett and Alessrs lan Alackay and F. Alay. BOWLING. The annual meeting of the Wanaka Bowling Club was held on Saturday night. The following officers were elected for the season President, Air R. Walker; vice-president, Mr A. APKcgg; committee —Alessrs Studholme, Stevenson, Q. Morris, Perrow and Ballantyne; Alatch Committee—Alessrs R. Wilson, F. Collings and J. Perrow; secretary and handicapper,' J. Faulks. It was decided to open the season on Labour Day and to hold a dance and presentation of prizes in the evening. PEMBROKE SCHOOL. The annual school concert was held in the Pembroke Hall on Thursday night last. There was'a large attendance, the school prize fund benefiting to the extent of £ls; The performances of the children reflected credit on those responsible for their tuition (Aliss APFarlane and Air T. Tait).
