The earthquake Relief Fund totals £1268 18s 9d, including a donation of £SO from Messrs Sargood, Son, and Ewen (Wellington). Up to the present 2COO broken joints have been located in the low pressure water mains, fin'd a start is now being made on an overhaul of the reticulation in the town area, where it is expected that the damage will be as heavy as on the former occasion.
WELLINGTON, October 12._ The Minister of Labour (Mr A. Hamilton) to-day told a Maori deputation that he would confer with the Prime Minister (Mr G. W. Forbes) in regard to its request for the Government to intervene in the shearers’ dispute, and would give a reply Inter. The Maoris said they were at a disadvantage when it, came to individual bargaining. NEW PLYMOUTH. October 12.
When'half an hour’s work remained to complete loading the steamer Rarajiga at 10 o’clock to-night one of the gang of waterside workers demanded to be paid for two hours till midnight. The ijtevedoro went away to consult the owners, and when he returned the men were walking off the ship. The remainder of the pork and cheese was returned to the store.
