CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY

MRS TEMPLER AND MISS RUTHERFORD IN FINAL

The semi-finals of the Dominion women’s golf championships were played this tnornihg in brilliant sunshine, tempered with a light easterly breeze. The greens' dried out well after Monday’s- ‘ soaking ruin and played excellently. Giving a stylish exhibition, Mrs J. C. Templer (Waimate) heavily defeated Miss H. Loughnnn (Christchurch), 6 and 5. She took Jhe first four holes in a brilliant manner, which affected Miss , Loughnan, who fell into errors. Mrs Templer continued well, and was 7 np at the turn, and the game ended at the thirteenth.

. A keen struggle was provided between Miss B. Rutherford (Hawarden) and Mrs Collinson (Manawatu), the former winning 1 up. The issue was in doubt i till the last green,, where putting lapses by the, Manawatu player- gave her* opponent, the victory. The final over 36 holes will be played

to-morrow between Mrs Templer an-J Miss Rutherford.

NOTES ON THE PLAY. The semi-finals attracted a large gallery, a feature of which was the magnificent display by Mrs Templor, who dey, fcated Miss H. Loughnan 6 and 5. Mrs Templer won the first eight holes,, lost the next and turned T up. The first foul she took in bogey-figures. Miss Loughnan showed a complete lapse of form, het - driving, which had been a feature of her earlier games, being much below her previous standard, while on the greens she was never certain. She shovred an ini* provement after taking the first hole bathe home journey and took tile game to,, the thirteenth, but had ub chance of; averting defeat. : . • ‘ Miss Rutherford and Mrs ColUnson had a stern struggle throughout. - The • former held the advantage in driving and % her short game was superior to that of Mrs Collinson, who, however, held her own on the greens, , Miss Rutherford. was 1 up at the turn and won ' the tenth, but Mrs Collinson won the eleventh and twelfth to square the match. Miss Rutherford again { assumed the lead at the fourteenth, and the next two holes were halved. ■

Miss Rutherford lost the seventeenth, when she failed to sink a putt for a half, but took the home hole in one over bogey and the match 1 up. BOGEY HANDICAPS. The senior division bogey handicap was won by Miss M. Beadel, of Christchurch, ; 2 down after a tie with Miss M. Tizapd, '' of Timaru. ' . ,■’

The junior division bogey handicap was won by Miss 0. Smith, Napier, 2 down. The same player takes the Rattray Cup for the best score iu two bogey handicaps.
