CHORAL SOCIETY
The forthcoming production of Weber’s “ Oberon ” by t{io Dunedin Choral Society in the Town Hall next Tuesday promises to be one of the most interesting and enjoyable concerts the society lias yet given. The opera is very rarely performed on the stage, and even the concert version has never, it is believed, been performed in Dunedin, so that it will have all the chaAi of novelty to recommend it. The music is very attractive and charming, , and members > of _ the chorus have become, very enthusiastic about it. The opening chorus, " Light as Fairy Foot Can Fall,” is a veritable gem, arid, indeed, the whole work is full of attractive passages. Miss Evelyn Shepard’s beautiful soprano voice is well suited to the diffi-' cult and exacting part of Rezia. and Missj Phyllis Clare (mezzo-soprano) should do full justice to the role of Fatima. Mr C. R. Williamson, a recent arrival from Christchurch, is a welcome addition to the ranks of local tenors. He will appear in the role of Sir Huon, while Mr Allan Mitchell (tenor) and Mr E. Ottrey (baritone) fill the parts of Oberon and Sherasmin respectively. The accompaniments will be played by the society s orchestra, which has been bußt up into a strong and efficient combination.
