JOSEF SZIGETI
FIRST CONCERT. The first of the two concerts to be given in the Town Hall by Josef Szigeti, the famous violinist, will take place this evening. Szigeti was horn ■in 1893 in Buda ; pest. He studied from the age of six with his great tountryman, Hubay, and later with Joachim. His first appearance; when 13 years old, was at the Royal Academy of his native City, and he subsequently appeared at Berlin and, Dresden. In 1917 he made his first bow in Queen’s Hall, London, and he remained in England for nearly seven years, appearing continually in London and touring the provinces with Busoni, Backhaus, and Melba, Since his first visit to America in 1025 he has returned every year, pjayto sold-out houses. he has .just completed a tour of the Orient. Szigeti brings with him his permanent accompanist, the . 20-year-old Prince_ Nikita Magaloff, of whose work the critics speak in terms, of high praise. The first programme will include the following numbers:—Corelli, “La Follia”; Bach, 6 minor Sonata; Mozart, D major Concerto: Bloch, “Nigun”: Paganini, Andante and Caprice; de Falla, “Spanish Dance.”
