SALE OF HOTEL
MISREPRESENTATION ALLEGED PURCHASER AWARDED DAMAGES ■l ’ ■ : ' (Per United Press association.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 11. Damages amounting to £2187 were awarded by the jury in the Supreme Court to-day to an hotel-keeper, John Daniel Henry M'Gurdy, against Baffin Brothers, wine and spirit merchants, in respect of the purchase by the plaintiff M'Gurdy of the Pier Hotel, Kaiapoi. The plaintiff alleged that he had been induced to buy. the hotel _ou representations concerning the business done .in the hotel made by Baffin Brothers and their agents, and that the defendants had made the representations knowing /them to be untrue or had made them recklessly without regard to whether they were true or not. The jury>found that the representations had been made recklessly' without regard to the question of truth or otherwise. Both counsel moved for judgment on the findings and his Honor reserved his decision on the question.
