GOOD TEMPLARY

The Hope of Caversham Lodge, No. 128, held its weekly meeting in Baxter Hall, Marion street, on Thursday. C.T. Bro. R. Crawshaw presided over a fair attendance of members and visitors from Rescue and Hope of Dunedin Lodges. An invitation was received from Hope of Dunedin Lodge to attend a social evening. A favourable report was given on the Juvenile |Temple. The item for the evening was “ Birthday Night,” with Bros. Crawshaw andJSequee in charge. Items were also given by Sisters Mrs Wilson and Mrs Steedman, duet; Bro. F. Swittalli, sailor’s hornpipe; also community singing. Bros. Crawshaw and Sequce each received a birthday gift. Bro. H. Stephenson, C.T., presided over a large attendance of juveniles at the meeting of the Silver Star Temple. Three candidates were initiated, and some new names were added to the cradle roll. Mrs Black addressed the children. Greetings were received from the G.S.J.W., of Switzerland. Sis. Rayner, C.J.W., received the greetings, and will also correspond with the sister. The Hope of Dunedin Lodge, No. 155, met on Wednesday, with C.T. Bro. South presiding. Visitors were present from the Hope of Caversham Lodge. After the usual business was dispensed with the lodge was thrown open for. visitors, and the following rendered items: —Bros. White (song), Sis. Black (recitation), Bro. C. South (mouth organ solo). Sisters A. Steedman, Ledgerwood, and Strode rendered songs and also a duet. Bro. King made a very efficient accompanist. The Radiant Morn -Temple, No. 21, held its weekly meeting on Saturday evening last in the Methodist Sunday School, Mornington, when C.T, Bro. Leslie Andrews presided over a large attendance of members and visitors. The superintendent was in charge. A pleasing interlude took place when Bro. W. G. lies, on behalf of the Hope of Tahuna Temple, presented Sis. J. Newman with a prize for being placed second in the Dominion essay competition on “ David Livingstone.” This is the second occasion in which this temple has gained honours in a competition of this nature. ihe evening’s entertainment was in the capable hands of Bro. G. H. R. lies, and an exceedingly enjoyable programme ensued. The weekly meeting of the Rescue Lodge, No. 105, was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, King Edward street, Kensington, on Tuesday, when there was a good attendance of members. Visitors were also present from the Hope of Dunedin and Hope of Caversham Lodges. C.T. Bro. E. J. lies presided. The membership of the lodge was increased by the initiation of tw r o candidates who were accorded a ■ hearty welcome. Correspondence was received from the G.S.C.R., bis. Mrs Wilkinson, and Sis. Mrs Cameron was nominated to the office of cradle roll superintendent. Several members were reported to be still laid aside through illhealth. Members were reminded of the combined meeting of Grand and district lodge members on Tuesday next, when it is hoped a large attendance will be present. Reports on the juvenile temples were very gratifying and the promise of the future is looked to the young folk to carry on the Order to a successful issue. Greetings were received from the Hope of Caversham. The harmony of the evening was contributed to by the following members, who rendered solos: —Sis. A. Steedman, Sis. Wright, Bros. J. Hilton, T. H. Dalton, and E. J. lies. A community sing by all the members brought an enjoyable hour to a finish and the, session was brought to a close with the usual ceremonies. ' The Sunshine Junior Lodge, No. 4, met for the weekly meeting on Thursday in the St. Andrew’s Church Sunday School Hall, Bridgman street, Kensington. Bro. Rae Smith, C.T., presided oyer a large attendance of members. Visitors were also present from the Rescue Lodge, No. 105, .and were accorded a hearty welcome. Fraternal greetings were received from Bro. T. Honeyman, international secretary. Bros. W. A. lies and R. Mercer both addressed the members, and complimented them on their conduct and work during the business part of the session and tendered some helpful suggestions. An interesting debate, "Is Good Templary Worth While?” took place. Bro. T. Byooks and Sis. J. Garden were on the affirmative side, and Sis. J, Cameron and Bro. R. Smith on the negative side. Both sides were keen in their efforts to prove their qualification and the judges. Sisters Mrs Mercer and Mrs Ties, found it a hard task in coming to a decision from the speakers’ point, but the summing up brought out that “ Good Templary ” was worth while. All the speakers were complimented on their very fine spirit shown and the interesting manner in which their subject had been given. A fine example of, the folly of intepiperate habits and a great recovery was related_ after the debate,, which created an impression on those present, which is not soon to be forgotten. The session was closed with the usual ceremonies. The superintendent, Bro. E. J. Ties, was in charge.
