MARRIAGE BAN ON POLICE
PERIOD OP THREE YEARS. ‘. Policemen in the county of Glamorgan must remain unmarried tor three jfcars after their appointment. If they desire to marry after this period they must: apply to the chief constable for permission /i;o do so.. ■ , . . ■ ■ t Captain Lionel Lindsay, the chief constable, however, strongly urged the Police Committee recently to increase that period to five years. “ Far the best place fop a constable to learn his Butyr ho said, “ is in a big police station where he f ' is in continual touch with all the phases ; of police duties. He thus learns • his work far moie easily and efficiently ,than by studying backs, and it takes the ordin- : ary man five years of this practical ex- * penence to becofhe efficient. - f “Besides,” added the chief com table, “ a young constable living in apartments away from the police station is but of touch with the rest of the force except when on duty, and he cannot .bo pot at readily when he is required. - This,, pf:, course, greatly reduces the strength of tho.-s force.” .
Several members of the committee said • they felt that it would be hardship .to j compel a young policeman to be for fire years after being appointed, and > the chief constable’s recommendation to incm.se the period of, celibacy was. sent. back for further consideration. ■ ' .j
