TO-DAY’S FOOTBALL
RUGBY. The Aingc Charity Shield match between University A (premiers) and Southern (runners-up) will be played at Carisbrook this afternoon. Both teams have been showing excellent form throughout the season, and play bright, open football. As a curtain-raiser, the Third Grade match, Port Chalmers A v. Kaikorai, will be played. This should also provide an interesting match. The whole of the proceeds will be devoted to local charities, and the public by their patronage will not only be witnessing two excellent games, but will also be assisting some worthy institution. The box plan is now open at the Bristol. OTAGO JUNIORS v. EASTERN DISTRICTS. Cameron (the Kaikorai five-eighths) will replace Irwin in the Otago team to play Eastern Districts to-day, and Cunningham (University B) will replace Simmers. ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL. The principal event of the round of matches in the Fletcher Cup competition to-day will be the meeting of SencUff and Maori Hill at Logan Park. Both teams, along with Mosgiel, are in close running for premiership honours, and spectators should witness a close and exciting game, as a loss to either team will seriously affect its position for the premiership. There will be two games played at Logan Park, the first one between Northern and Mornington, starting at 1.30. At the Oval, High School Old Boys will play Port Chalmers, the out-of-town match being Mosgiel and Technical, at Mosgiel.
