MONTHLY MEETING OF ASSOCIATION ' ; ... The monthly meeting of the Caversham Ratepayers and Householders’ Association was held in the Caversham School buildings recently. The president (Mr H. H. Milne) presided. , A letter was received from Mr J. List tendering his resignation from the execu-tive,—-It was decided that the resignation should he accepted -with regret, and a letter of thanks for past services should be forwarded to Mr List. . ' ~ It was decided to -call the attention of .the council to the rough state of EiselaW; road, and inquiring if it would consider the widening of David street, pointing put that unemployment labour could be utilised. ‘ .... ... ... It was resolved that the dangers Arising from, the corners in the vicinity of Cole street, and South road should be, pointed blit to the council, with the suggestion that they should be • rounded to give a better view of approaching traffic. , -It wa,s decided to write to the town clerk regarding the scarcity of street lights on the South road, and also suggesting that the light'on the city side, of Burnett street should be moved to the opposite corner, as it would then serve to light a dark, bend in' the, road, and that the, light in ‘ Corstorphine .road; opposite No. 45, should be moved further up on the bend to serve the same purpose. The matter of stray dogs and wandering stock in the district was discussed/ and it was decided to call the authorities’ attention- to this matter. It, was decided to call the council s attention to the state of the curbing at the . bus stop at Caversham, and also to point out that a portion of the fence in the South road required repairing. SEVENTH ANNUAL REPORT.

The seventh annual report of the association to'be presented, at the • annual meeting' on Monday’ next, states, inter alia, that the work of the association has proceeded ", very successfully during- the: year. Deputations have been arranged, and considerable correspondence has taken place with different bodies, the result being - a considerable improvement in-the interests of the district. The association was very successful, during the year in having the South road put in good condition. Tarred macadam, has now been completed from the tram terminus to Look-out Point, and good retaining walls have been built at different points, where necessary, to hold the banks. A petition was forwarded by the association to the City Council from-the residents on the Valley road,, complaining about the dust nuisance. The council hag now decided to tar-seal this road, and this should settle the complaint. Attention was called,in the earjy part of the.year to an attempt to make Asquith street a public right of way. The association immediately made a decided protest, and the result has been that the City Council has now taken over the street, and it is being tidied up and put in good order. When finished this street will be a credit to the district instead of the eyesore it has been. Attempts were made during the .year to obtain extra slot telephones in the district, but, owing to the financial stringency, these were unsuccessful. The matter has not been lost sight of, however, and when conditions improve the association will advance the matter again. _ The association made representatmns several times during the year regarding the State of the • children’s playground, and it has now been placed in fairly good order., The open drain, however, is still in existence, in spite of all protests, and the incoming executive is asked not to relax its efforts until that is piped and put into a safe condition. The state of Riselaw road has been the subject of considerable correspondence, and, although rtuicli improvement has been effected, it is still far from perfection. In answer to a- request which had been made that the 4.45 bus should proceed over Riselaw road for the convenience of the Corstorphine workers, the association was told by the tramway manager that the road was unfit, for bus traffic. The association had referred his opinion to the council, and is now awaiting a reply. The reserve at the back of the station is being put in order under the Unemployment scheme, and when finished will be an acquisition to the district, Part of the-bank.has been removed, , and it is hoped the reserve will now be big enough for a sports ground. i
