“TOGETHER WE STAND”

TO THE EDITOR Stß —Mr A. B. Powell contradicts our assertion that co-operation between capital and labour is essential to progress bv saying it is impossible, To argue as he does that the interests of capital and labour are diametrically opposed, is surely unsound, for they are partners. Even under Socialism, which seems to be his remedy, capital and labour will exist. With proper co-operation so that (to nuote our own words) a fair division ot production may be secured, neither side would dictate. At present each side attempts to dictate to the other, Hus hampers peaceful progress. The great leaders of American Trades Unions hold very different views to your correspondent, as can be .seen by this quotation from the president of the American Federation of Labour: The. welfare of wage earners is not to be at the expense of other groups, but with an understanding that sustained progress for one group is dependent on the substantial progress for one group is dependent on the substantial progress ot all.”—We are, etc., New Zealand Welfare League. July 2.
