INVITATION TO KAISER

State Department officials at Washings ton are somewhat puzzled and embarrassed over an invitation vote by citizens of St. Thomas, the Virgin Islands, to the former Kaiser of Germany, Wilhelm 11, to spend the remaining years of his exile in the islands (says the Montreal Star). Resolutions of invitation passed by the Chamber of Commerce of St. Thomas and the St. Thomas Improvement Association were received by Governor-General Paul M. Pearson, who was in Washington. He transmitted them to the State Department. The resolutions, based upon the report of the cx-Kaiser’s physician that the climate at Iloorn, where he is now living, is not good for him in his enfeebled condition, point out the ideal climatic and health , conditions of the islands and assure the ex-Kaiser ’ that all the advantages of the islands will be placed at his disposal. At the State Departments it is indicated that the invitations will he treated the same as any other communications from an American Chamber of Commerce or from a State Governor. The invitations will probably be transmitted to Doom through the American Consulate at Amsterdam unless some objective is interposed by the German Government.
