FARMERS’ UNION

PINE HILL-WAITATI BRANCH. On Tuesday evening last in the Mount Cargill School the first annual meeting of the Pine Hill-Waitati branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held. The president (Mr A. Spoor) presided over an attendance of 30 members. In reviewing the work of the branch during the seven months it had been in existence, Mr Spoor said that he wished to thank members for the assistance that all had given to him. The branch bad been particularly fortunate in the excellent start given to it by the provincial secretary (Mr A. C. Cameron), who, as well as attending two meetings himself, had arranged for several speakers from the city. These included Mr C. V. Dayus, superintendent of the live stock division, and Mr A. Stuart, also of the Department of Agriculture; Mr J. 1 Preston, chairman of the Waikouaiti County Council, and Mr William Lee, a member of the Dairy Board. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr A. Spoor (reelected); secretary, Mr J. H, Scott; vicepresidents, Messrs Young and Morton; committee —Messrs M'Lauchlnu, Ferguson, Brenssell, M'Gregor, F. Souquet, D. Baird, Seymour, Booth, and Harris; delegate to provincial executive, Mr A. Spoor. The meeting was then addressed by Mr S. R. Whyte, sales manager of Producers, Ltd., who was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
