ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the St. John Ambulance Association was held at lioad'quarters on Tuesday, June 7. Dr Falconer occupied the chair, and a good representation of members was present. The reports from transport showed that the ambulances were in almost constant use, and a marked increase in the mileage for the month was recorded. The hospital hostess reported steady and increased work. Used copies of London papers would be helpful, as such papers' were always looked for with keen interest, District nurses were having a busy time. The number of visits paid during the month showed that the as-, sociation’s work was becoming more widely known, and its services more widely availed of. This work might not be all sweet and clean, but there were many phases that compensated. Mrs G. M. Baker reported several instances of the appreciation in which the St. John district nurses were held. These women were inspired with work for the sake of humanity. They, too, had their reward, not in the pittance 'paid by the association, but in the appreciation they had won from people who in distress had been relieved and comforted. The Classes Sub-committee report that men’s and women's first-aid classes had been started at headquarters, Dr Perry being the lecturer. . The railway locomotive class was well under way with a membership of over 40, and Dr Barnett was giving his services to the class. Kaitangata had completed its tuition, and under Dr de Clive Lowe and its examiner, Dr Burnett, had put up a good record, all members having gained grst-aid certificates. t These men, with the encouragement given by the doctors, were now endeavouring to form an ambulance division. It was reported that another class was being formed by Mr D. Hulse, engin-eer-in-chargc of Public Works at Lauder. Dr Scrymgour had offered his services as lecturer, the association assisting with equipment.
