RUGBY FOOTBALL

TO-DAY’S MATCHES Not for many years has the First Grade competition been in such an. interesting state as it is at present, and the prospects are that several teams will be equal in points at the end of the first round. The attraction at Carisbrook today is sure to draw a good crowd. Alhambra have been showing good form, and playing bright, open football, while the Pirates are always liable to beat teams that are ahead of them in the championship table. A particularly good cur-tain-raiser to the big match will be a Third Grade match between Port Chalmers and High School. ■ . At Tahuna Park, Taieri will meet University A, and if the former reproduce the form they showed when they beat Pirates the students will have to be at the top of their form to win. Kaikorai and Zingari will meet at Bishopscourt, and here again there is every prospect of an interesting and closely-contested match. In the other matches Dunedin and University B will meet at the University Oval No. 1 ground, and Union will meet Southern on the No. 2 ground. Official guides will be on sale as usual.
