—— Mr C. A. L, Treadwell left by yesterday morning’s express on his return to Wellington. A Press Association telegram from Nelson states that Mr J. Corder has been reelected chairman of the Waimea County Council. Appreciative reference to the valuable services of the retiring secretary,' Mr H. M. Kirk, was made at the annual meeting of the Otago branch of the Waitaki , High School Old Boys’ Association on Thursday evening by the president, Mr E. E. Clowes, who stated that the branch was fortunate in that, though Air Kirk could no longer spare the time for the secretaryship, it would still have the benefit of his assistance as a member of the committee. Mr A. H. Sinel, manager of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Shipping Company, has received advice (says a Press Association telegram) of his appointment to the position of traffic manager for New Zealand and local manager o: the company’s Wellington branch. Before severing his connection with the firm of Ford Motors (Dunedin) Limited on Thursday, Mr J. T. Dunn, who has been in the employ of this firm for the past nine years, was the recipient of a handsome leather suit case from the management and staff as a token of esteem and goodwill. Mr H. A. Knight, the well-known race horse owner, is an inmate of St. George’s Hospital, Christchurch, where he is making a good recovery after an operation on one of his eyes. Father T. M'Carthy, of Wellington, superior of the Marist Order in New Zealand,, left by the Mariposa for Suva from Auckland on Monday. He > will conduct a series of missions in Fiji before returning to New Zealand. Sir William Hunt, managing director of Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., was congratulated on his recentlyconferred honour of knighthood by the Wellington directors and staff of the company at a cordial and informal gathering held on Monday evening. Messrs J. T. Martin and D. Allan, followed by members of the staff, expressed in complimentary terms the opinions held by those present. Sir William suitably replied, and the company accorded him musical honours.
