ANZAC DAY

LOCAL OBSERVANCE -//' ■; I The special service commemorating - the landing on Gallipoli l and the service rendered by-The New Zealanders in the various theatres of the Great War will be held at St, Paul’s Cathedral at 7.30 p.m. on Anzac Day;' Although steps have been -taken in various quarters to_ have the commemoration transferred, it is felt that, out of layalty to the returned soldiers, nt whese request Anzafa’ Day has been set ajnrt, this, is ,the most fitting day on whiih the service can be held. The Mayor; and councillors, officers and non-commisiioned officers of the military {district, members of the Returned SolIdiers’ Association, .’and/the St. Jqhn Ambulance Brigade and .nurses will attend officially. The band of, the Ist Battalion .with the' cathedfal organist and chair will renter the musical portion of the service, and “ The Last Post ” and reveille will b* sounded by the,' Trumpet and Bugle Band of tjie Otago Regiment. As uaval, the collection will be given to the Riturned Soldiers’ Association to ho devothl towards placing stones on the graves of soldiers who-' have died since their return to civil life. It is interesting to note that, as the result of these cofhetions, the cathedral authorities have heai able to : give *more than £IOO to this purpose. The preacher will be the. Rev. A, Wingfield, and the service will be broadcast by 4ZO. The observance of Anzac Day nt Mospiel will be oh lines similar to that/of pst year. A procession will be formed at the high school, in which returned lodges, bands, fire brigade, school children will take part. A commemoration service will be held in the a Coronation Hall. - The principal address will be delivered by the Rev. Hugh, Graham, and the Rev. W. E. Lanihert will be chairman. The roll of honour; will he rend by Mr Hnnlin. The procession, will haltjat the soldiers’ memorial, where wreaths will be deposited. A united Anzac Day service will he held at 1 the.,l Maori Hi!] Presbyterian Church at 10 a.hi.
