SUMMARY OF REGUIiAjIONS I ' •; N ~9 The. date for the opening of; the game; shooting season this year lids been fixed' for May 2, and it is expected.that many local sportsmen wall spend. the. .day in pursuit of the game which is, said to be plentiful in Otago this year. - As the result of the efforts of'the Otago Acclimatisation Society, which has' made repeated representations to the Government, an opeli season for pukeko, from May 2 to May 15, has been allowed in Bruce, Taieri and Maniototo Counties. There will be a dose geason for paradise duck, The season for native and imported game will continue till July 31 and a limit of 20 birds per day will be imposed. The 'imported game" which may be Taken is Californian quail and mallard duck, and native game comprises, grey duck, spoonbill duck and black swan. The regulation prohibiting the use of any automatic or aiito-loading gun, unless it. is converted into a gun capable of carrying only two cartridges will remain in force. Any person, in bona fide occupation of any land and one son or daughter may shoot within the boundaries of the land with-' out a license; but, should the occupier desire to appoint some other person to shoot in his stead* he must give that person permission in writing to shoot on his property and have the note of appointment forwarded to the secretary of the Acclimatisation, Society for approval. The occupier' himself cannot shoot game without a license while such appointment remains in force.
