(From Our Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, April 5. BOWLING. By defeating Kaitangata on the Milton green on Saturday, the Milton Bowling Club secured the championship of South Otago for this season. The Milton team has only been beaten once, and that was by Balclutha on the latter’s green. Milton’s record stands at 12 games played, 10 won, 1 lost and 1 drawn. Stirling comes next with nine wins out of 12 games, and Kaitangata has eight wins, Balclutha seven, Benhar three, Owaka three, and Warepa one. ' CRICKET. The following cricket team has been selected to represent South Otago against the season’s premiers (Balclutha) on the Ritter’s ground on Saturday:—Wisely, Kano, ;jun. (Milburn), Hawke, Ryan (Milton), B. Buttar, Mitchell (Clutha Valley), Hampton, Hannay, F. Stewart i Owaka), L. Edwards, L. Dunn (Clinton). Winchester (Owaka) is twelfth man. ; PERSONAL. ! Mrs Clements, who for the past 23 years was matron of the Kaitangata Hospital, and has now retired, was accorded ja great send-01l in the Returned Soldiers’ ‘Hall at Kaitangata. The Mayor (Mr iFenton) presided over a large attendance, and presented Mrs Clements with a hand■soine Chesterfield suite, consisting of two .easy chairs and a couch, the money for jwhich had been subscribed by the public 'of Kaitangata. Others who spoke very -highly of the retiring nurse were Mr T. iCairns (ex-Mayor), Dr James Fitzgerald ,fDunedin), and Dr de Clive Lowe. Mr P- P. Clements returned thanks on behalf of his wife. Best wishes were also extended to Sister Templeton, who has succeeded Nurse Clemente in charge of the Kaitangata Hospital, and a bright musical programme and dancing combined to ihake the function a very successful ami enjoyable one. Mrs Clements intends to reside at Kaka Point for a portion of the year. 1 TRAFFIC BRIDGE. , Good progress is being made with the work of redecking what is called the old portion of the traffic bridge. Red pine from the West Coast is being used, and the work should be 'completed in about ;a fortnight. It is noteworthy that this part of the bridge has not been repainted dmce its erection 50 years ago, and the paint used then wag merely hematite.
