EMPIRE BUTTER
CONSUMPTION INCREASING MARKETING BOARD’S TEST. LONDON, April 4. (Received April 5, at 5.5 p.m.) The Marketing Board’s test at Nottingham, which is a “ no man’s land ” between three camps, proves that the consumption of Empire butter is increasing. Australian and New Zealand butters dominate the London market, Irish butter dominates Liverpool, and Danish dominates eastern ports. The price at Nottingham from 1928 to 1931 fell from 21d to 15d per lb, and the weekly sales rose by 68cwt. Thus the price fell 30 per cent, and the sales rose 15 per cent. Empire butters accounted for the bulk of the improvement, Australian rising 44 per cent., New Zealand 25, and the total proportion of Empire butter from 24 to 27 per cent.
