THE BRIDGE INCIDENT

ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT ANGRY CROWD OUTSIDE. SYDNEY, March 22. (Received March 22, at 9 p.m.) Captain de Groot appeared before Mr Laidlaw, S.M., at the Central Police Court on three charges in connection with the bridge incident. He was remanded until April 1. His departure from the court was marked by a demonstration. Colonel Campbell and Captain de Groot were escorted by a big batch of police to a tram in George street. The policemen lined the running boards of the tram car, gradually jumping off as the angry mob was left behind. The Defence Department states that Captain de Groot is not a member of the Commonwealth Forces.
