MUNIFICENT GIFT

FUNDS FOR A HOSPITAL AN ANONYMOUS DONOR. LONDON, March 8. An anonymous benefactor has promised a gift of more than £OO,OOO to Wakefield, Yorkshire. Recently he called on the town clerk, Air T. N. Grimshaw, and the medical officer of health, Dr T. Gibson, and said he had heard that Wakefield wanted an infectious diseases hospital. The visitor asked to see the plans of the proposed building, and said that if the corporation were really anxious to proceed with the scheme he would give £71,000, the estimated cost, less £SOOO which it had been proposed to spend on a makeshift scheme, and £4500, the value of the site, which the corporation already owned. The man who made the offer forbade that his name should be disclosed.

The General Purposes Committee of Wakefield Council accepted the offer and decided to proceed with the erection of the hospital.
